The 2024 Brain Symposium seeks to showcase groundbreaking neuroscience research at the University of Virginia and to enhance the UVA neuroscience community through research talks, networking events, and other learning opportunities. The event program includes a poster contest session and reception on Wednesday, May 22nd from 3:30-5:00pm. The UVA Brain Institute seeks abstract submissions from across the University for the poster session.

Eligibility: Any UVA faculty member, staff member, fellow, resident, postdoc, graduate student, or undergraduate student who performs neuroscience research is eligible to submit.

Focus: Posters/abstracts can address any subject related to neuroscience.

Guidelines: Abstracts should be 250 words or less (not including title, authors, or references) and no tables or figures may be included.

Deadline to submit: April 15, 2024 (11:59pm EDT).

Abstract review: Abstracts will be reviewed to determine which abstracts will be accepted to be presented as posters at the symposium. If the number of submissions exceeds the numbers of spaces, priority may be given to trainee submissions and/or to abstracts that allow for a showcase of the broad spectrum of neuroscience research at the University. A basic review of clarity of the writing, quality of the methodology/approach, and impact of the results/evaluation outcomes may also be considered.

Notification of acceptance: The authors of abstracts selected to participate at the poster session will be notified by May 1, 2024 and will receive detailed poster preparation information. Posters must be prepared by May 20, 2024.

Contest guidelines: The poster contest will be judged during the Symposium event. Prizes will be awarded to the best poster by 1) a graduate student, 2) a postdoctoral scholar, and 3) an undergraduate. The top poster in each category will be awarded $500 each to support travel or registration expenses to a neuroscience research conference.
